Our History
Karum's Carrom Workshop is the dream of a team of skilled craftsmen with years of experience in woodworking and an unending love for carom. The business was set up with a view to use the expertise to produce exclusive hand made carrom game boards which quality conscious customers could enjoy for years.After producing boards completely indigenously for an initial period, we decided to source selected raw materials for our boards from South Asia and the Far East. This enabled us to cut costs and make our boards more affordable, while retaining our high standards by finishing the boards with our own hands.
In all honesty, we are not after "capturing the market" with unimaginable quantities of mass-produced products from the Far East, but to be renowned for the excellence of our hand made boards. We have invested significant amount of time and resources to master the art of producing the ideal carrom board. While the quest for perfection is an unending pursuit, each element of experience has helped us to understand the game better and make further improvements to our carrom boards.
The Karom Board launched barely in time for Christmas 2004 was extremely popular amongst our customers, though we were only able to produce limited quantities of the same. In addition to tangentially rounded corner pockets and a bevelled teak frame, the board featured a reinforced back to enhance the flatness of the playing surface and to preventing warping of plywood over a prolonged period, especially in view of Britain's damp weather conditions. Furthermore, The Karom Board featured a specially polished playing surface which performed brilliantly in conjunction with our karom powder, and also brought our boards in line with ICF specifications.
The Carnival Carrom Board essentially took off where its predecessor The Karom Board left and was the result of months of perseverance and experimentation. Initially scheduled for Spring 2005, it certainly took considerably longer than expected, but good things come to those who wait.
The Ultima Carrom Board launched before Christmas 2006 is probably the ultimate professional carrom board ever. Thanks to the quality raw materials and workmanship, the Ultima board offers an unmatched rebound rate of 5, leaving the competition far behind in performance.
The Emperor Carrom Board and The President Carrom Board are available from July 2008 as scheduled. Based on precious feedback, both boards feature hand polished frames to expose the beauty of the natural grains of the wood, with our best ever series of specifications.
